Who this is for
InvoiceMint is one generator, not five products. Trades do not need a different app. They need different line items, because the argument that happens after the work is different.
Earlier versions of this site split that into a separate landing page per job title. Those pages were too similar to each other to justify existing as five URLs. The generator now has an Invoice format dropdown that loads each trade’s line items and terms. This page explains why they differ.
What actually changes between trades
The invoice still has a seller, a buyer, dates, a number, line items, tax and terms. The part that is trade-specific is the thing you will later wish you had written down.
- Photographers — usage rights, not just the shoot.
- Consultants — the scope the day rate does not cover.
- Freelance writers — revisions, kill fees, reuse.
- Contractors — labour vs materials vs extras.
- Tutors — cancelled sessions and unused prepaid hours.
Photographers
The usual failure is billing the shoot and leaving the licence implied. Write the medium, territory and duration on their own line.
Open with photography line items
Consultants
Name the engagement and point at the statement of work on the invoice itself.
Open with consulting line items
Freelance writers
State how many revision rounds are included. A kill fee belongs on the quote, then on the invoice if the piece is cancelled after work started.
Contractors and trades
Split labour, materials and agreed variations. Name the stage on a progress claim.
Tutors
Write the cancellation window. Prepaid packs should show hours bought, used, and left.
If your trade is not listed
Use the Invoice format dropdown on the generator, or start from a blank invoice.
